Wrestling state title winners

Two athletes from area Catholic high schools emerged as champions from the Colorado state wrestling tournament that wrapped up at the Pepsi Center Feb. 22: Grant Neal (39-0), a senior from Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, capped a perfect season to repeat as the 5A state champ, this year in the 220-pound division; and Joseph Prieto (38-4), a junior from Holy Family High School in Broomfield took the 3A state championship at 138 pounds. His twin brother, Julian Prieto competed in the state finals as well, at 132 pounds, where he was narrowly defeated in a 6-5 decision. In team standings, Regis Jesuit tied for 10th in class 5A, garnering a score of 56; and Holy Family finished 10th in the 3A competition with a score of 58. Neal has signed with Colorado State University at Pueblo to play football next year.
