“The moment when someone dies is not when their body ceases to exist, but when the last person whose life was touched by them dies.” On Saturday, 19 December 2020, Kathy passed away at age 66, surrounded by her husband and seven children. She was a loving wife, mother of seven, and grandmother to thirteen grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband, William John Saulton, seven children and 13 grandchildren: Patrick and wife, Stephanie, and children Caleb, Braden, Avery, and McKiernan; Zachary and wife Amy, son Rocco; Carissa and husband James; Rachael and husband Michael and daughter Emily; Loghan and wife Jennie and children Christian, Taylor, Isabella, and Loghan; Colin and wife Vanessa; and Colby and wife Jennifer and children Mackenzie, Claire, and Zachary. Kathy lived a very full life in her short 66 years. Second youngest in a family of eight, Kathy grew up in a busy household, learning from an early age skills she would need to raise her own brood. Kathy cherished her Denver roots and continued to cultivate them working at a North Denver jewelry store, Elitches, and educating her children in the same school she attended. Kathy graduated from Holy Family High School in 1972 and continued to show her support to the church, school, and community as she began her family. Kathy selflessly prioritized others before herself. She worked full time and was busy raising seven children yet volunteered her time and talents to her church and her children’s schools. She had endless stores of energy and commitment to give in order to make sure her children had every opportunity they could. She sacrificed so those she loved could have more. As a mature adult, she made the decision to return to school. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Regis University, graduating with honors and even giving the commencement speech. She was dedicated in all she did, raising her children, loving on her grandchildren, going to school, being a great friend, and being a person others loved to talk to. She had a special power that made you feel loved and cared for despite what was going on. She built lasting relationships, some spanning decades; however, if you had just met Kathy, you would have felt like you had known her forever. She proudly shared stories about her family and friends. She would regale stories of the honor she felt to have a decorated Denver police officer as a father and so many others in her family, including her brothers, two sons, her husband, and extended family as well. Kathy’s family was well known in North Denver but so was Kathy herself. Her children retell stories of encountering many who knew and loved their mom. These friends would share memories of how deeply Kathy touched their lives, how much they miss her contagious smile and laugh, and how generous she was with her time and heart. She also cultivated many memories with her children: playing games, taking road trips, watching movies, making special birthday dinners and cakes, baking cinnamon rolls, and viewing Christmas lights, just to name a very few. Besides her children, perhaps the life touched most was her husband, John’s. John and Kathy formed their friendship both working bingo, Kathy in pickles and John working off duty as police security. Through their friendship, they supported each other through both hard and happy times and found a love in one another that was immeasurable. For more than 20 years, John and Kathy grew in who they were individually and who they were as a couple. As best friends, Kathy and John nurtured their bond by pushing each other, celebrating the big and little moments, and growing a life together others only strive for. Kathy and John loved traveling to various countries and states, but perhaps their favorite place to spend their time was Marble, CO, where they married in 2009. Spending time with those she loved, her husband, children, grandkids, and siblings, was what Kathy enjoyed most. Through her dedication to family, friends, and community Kathy touched more lives than anyone will truly be able to know. The kindness and empathy she displayed for others, along with the memories she created with her children will ensure that her legacy will live on for generations. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents (Lawrence and Rae Marie Morahan), two sisters (Shirley and Sharrie Morahan), and brother (Larry Morahan). She is also survived by her brothers Dan (Mary), Michael (Judy), Jerry (Judy), and Tom (Cindy). Services and celebration of life to be held at Holy Family Catholic Church (4377 Utica St. Denver, CO 80212). Funeral Mass to start at 10:30 am with reception to follow in the Parish Hall. https://fb.me/e/12n07Qwyr – Facebook Event Page for the Memorial – Friday, Oct 15th at 10:30 am.
