Students compete to benefit new charity

Fifth-grade students collect and count boxes of food donated by the Blessed Sacrament School community last week.

Today is the last day the school is collecting donations for Catholic Charities’ new food bank and thrift store, Little Flower Center, at 11149 E. 14th Ave. in Aurora.

Classmates in the Denver school competed to collect the most non-perishable food items with a goal of 3,000 items total. Other area schools, including St. Therese and St. Pius X in Aurora, also held food drives to aid the center.

“They’ve been doing a wonderful job,” said Donna Potter, volunteer program coordinator at Little Flower Center. She said the donations should last through the holidays.
