RMPBS to feature John Paul II’s 1993 trip to Denver

Rocky Mountain PBS, channel 6, will air a 30-minute documentary titled “Pope John Paul II” on an episode of its “Colorado Experience” program 7 p.m. Oct. 23.

Some footage in the documentary, from the archives of the Archdiocese of Denver, hasn’t been seen for more than 20 years, according to Kelly Seeman, operations coordinator for the archdiocese’s Office of Communications.

Among those interviewed for the documentary were: Archbishop Samuel Aquila; Msgr. Edward Buelt, pastor of Our Lady of Loreto Parish in Foxfield and the vice president for logistics for World Youth Day 1993; Father Giovanni Capucci, judicial vicar for the archdiocese; Roxanne King, editor of the Denver Catholic Register 2001-2014; Mary Beth Bonacci, speaker and author; John Ferrugia, reporter for KMGH 7News Denver; and Dr. William J. Convery, state historian with History Colorado.

Oct. 22 marks St. John Paul’s first feast day since being canonized earlier this year on April 22. Oct. 22, 1978 marked the inauguration of his pontificate.

The episode will be available online after its initial airing at here.
