
Deacon Patrick Travis was a man of deep faith, unwavering devotion and steadfast service to his country, his Church and his family. From the moment he entered formation for the permanent diaconate, he was recognized as a prayerful man, his scriptural rosary recitations leaving a lasting impression on his band of brothers.
On May 21, 2024, Deacon Travis passed away unexpectedly while traveling with his beloved wife, Theresa.
Ordained a deacon on June 17, 2017, by Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila, Deacon Travis faithfully served at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Loveland. After retiring from active ministry, he and Theresa relocated to the Diocese of Orlando in Florida, where he continued to live out his vocation with prayer and service. A proud Vietnam combat veteran, Deacon Travis served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps, carrying with him the courage and dedication that defined his military service into his ministry.
Beyond his diaconal work, Deacon Travis and Theresa operated a small local business, working side by side in faith and love. He was a passionate advocate for the pro-life movement, his homilies and outreach reflecting his deep commitment to defending and advocating for the preborn.
“Deacon Pat was a tremendous servant, powerful in prayer and resolute as an ordained deacon, an example to us all,” recalled Deacon Ernest Martinez, Director of Deacons for the Archdiocese of Denver and his diaconal classmate.
Deacon Travis was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Theresa, his children, Michael and Alexa, and his three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 30, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Loveland, presided over by Bishop Jorge Rodríguez, Ph.D., and concelebrated by Father Shannon Thurman, the parish’s pastor. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Sidney, Iowa.
“Deacon Pat’s life was a testament to faith, service and sacrifice. May he rest in the eternal peace of Christ, whom he served so faithfully,”, said Deacon Martinez.
