Deacon Nathan Coursey dedicated his life to humble service, bringing God’s love and mercy to his people. Ordained on April 10, 1976, by Archbishop Casey, he embraced his diaconal calling with deep faith and compassion.
His ministry included Contemplative Outreach and Centering Prayer, as well as serving those in need at the Denver County Jail. Through his words and actions, he sought to draw others closer to God, always embodying the joy of the Lord.
Throughout his years of service, Deacon Coursey ministered at St. James Parish, Mother of God Parish, Blessed Sacrament Parish and the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, all in Denver.
He retired in 2008, and in 2023, he relocated to Santa Monica, California, to be closer to his daughter, Rebecca.
Born on August 14, 1938, in Bakersfield, California, Deacon Coursey served his country in the U.S. Army before working as a systems programmer for the City and County of Denver. His beloved wife, Janis, preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Rebecca, N Jae Man, Mara and Leah. Deacon Nathan passed away on November 19, 2024.
