Deacon James “Jim” Ball, Sr., “believed that [his] talents and skills lie in [his] ability to minister to the needs of the people of the parish,” he once shared while working with youth ministry and marriage preparation in the Archdiocese of Denver.

It was through such care and actions that the deacon served the Archdiocese of Denver. After a long sickness, Deacon Ball passed away on February 10, 2024.

Deacon Ball was ordained on June 12, 1999, by Archbishop Charles Chaput and ministered at Immaculate Conception Parish in Lafayette and St. Mark Parish in Westminster. Deacon Ball worked in the nuclear power industry, and his position took him to several locations throughout the United States. He and his wife, Nancy, relocated to Charlotte, NC, in 2010 to be closer to their children.

“Deacon Ball received his call to serve God’s people at a time where God needed him most, and we are so appreciative of his ‘yes’ to serve as an ordained minister of the Church,” recalled Deacon Ernest Martinez, Director of Deacons for the Archdiocese of Denver.

Deacon Ball was born on January 14, 1941, in Syracuse, NY. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and children, Maryellen, Kevin, Mike, and Tim. His son James preceded him in death.

Funeral Liturgies were held at Divine Saviour Catholic Church in York, SC, on February 10, 2024.
