Deacon Norman Beabout dedicated his life to faith, service and family. He was ordained as a deacon on May 9, 1979, in the Diocese of Joliet, IL, by Bishop Joseph Imesch, among the first group of married men ordained in the United States. While working as an industrial engineer, he faithfully served his community, embodying the call to ministry.

After retiring from his profession, Deacon Beabout and his wife, Eleanor, moved to Evergreen in 1992, where he continued his ministry at Christ the King Parish and St. Elizabeth Mission Church of Our Lady of the Pines in Buffalo Creek. His compassionate heart led him to serve as a hospital chaplain for over 25 years, including in the Archdiocese of Denver. He remained active in ministry, serving as a deacon and chaplain until the age of 90.

In 2021, Deacon Beabout and Eleanor returned to Belleville, IL. He passed away on September 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of faith and love.

Born on August 2, 1931, in Crawford County, IL, Deacon Norm was a devoted husband, married to Eleanor for 67 years. He was a loving father to Doug, Greg, Michelle, Marcia, Sabrina and Tammie, and a cherished grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Liturgy was held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Benedictine Living Community at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, IL.

“Deacon Norman’s life was a testament to unwavering faith, humble service, and deep love for his family and community. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered,” said Deacon Ernest Martinez, Director of Deacons for the Archdiocese of Denver.
