Father John W. Krenzke, who served at several parishes in Denver and Colorado Springs, died March 30 at age 91 in Denver. A vigil will be held April 7 at 6 p.m. at Gardens of St. Elizabeth, 2835 W. 32nd Ave. in Denver. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on April 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic Parish, 3053 W. 29th Ave. in Denver, with Bishop James Golka presiding. Father Krenzke was born to Edward and Catherine Krenzke on Feb. 25, 1931, in Racine, Wisconsin. He studied at the Aquinas Institute of Theology and was ordained to the priesthood on May 25, 1957, in Dubuque, Iowa, by Bishop Edward Hoban. After ordination, he served in Oklahoma before being named associate pastor of St. Dominic Parish in Denver, where he served from 1961-1966. From 1966-1969, he taught at high schools in Wisconsin and California. From 1969-1985, he was an itinerant preacher in Chicago, Oklahoma City and Denver. In 1985, he was named associate pastor of Divine Redeemer Parish and was incardinated in the Diocese of Colorado Springs on Aug. 1, 1987. He served as pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Stratton and St. Catherine Parish in Burlington from 1987-89. He was pastor of Church of the Risen Christ in Denver from 1989-1995. He served as parochial vicar at Holy Family Parish in Security from 1995-1996. Following his retirement in 1996, Father Krenzke moved to Denver and assisted at Church of the Risen Christ from 2000-2004. He also served as a diaconate chaplain and columnist for the Denver Catholic Register.
