Homelessness is a problem that we all want to do something about, but it’s hard to know where to start when it comes to this daunting and oft-misunderstood issue.
Though he’s only been in office for a few weeks, Denver’s new mayor Mike Johnston has made it one of his priorities to get 1,000 homeless people of the street and into shelters by the end of the year. To share the city’s plans to accomplish this and get input from its citizens, the City of Denver is holding a series of town halls on homelessness in August. Among them, one will be taking place at Most Precious Blood Parish in Denver this Thursday, Aug. 3. Doors open at 5:30, and the town hall discussion will take place from 6-7 p.m. It is open to the public. Learn more about the meeting here.
Alongside of Mayor Johnston and City of Denver officials, representatives from Christ in the City, a Denver-based ministry on the frontlines of homelessness that provides help and hope to countless homeless people, will also be present for the discussion. Additionally, after the town hall discussion, the parish will hold a screening of the recently-released Homeless But Human documentary, which focuses on the work of Christ in the City and their ministry to the homeless.
