Mike Gabriel, Mary Vulcani announced as new president, principal of Holy Family High School in Broomfield

This past spring, the Archdiocese of Denver Office of Catholic Schools conducted a nationwide search for the newly created position of President of Holy Family High School in Broomfield. However, after interviewing several potential candidates, none held the desired skill set and experience for that role. As a result, the search was temporarily halted, and Mike D. Gabriel was named Principal, and Mary Vulcani was named Assistant Principal.

As leadership from the Archdiocese and the Office of Catholic Schools observed Mr. Gabriel’s work in his short time as Principal and considered his impressive 24 years in high school education working in a variety of important roles, it became abundantly clear that he was the ideal candidate for the position of President of the school. He had not only the skills and ability to lead the school in fiscal responsibility, fund development, alumni relations and strategic planning for the future, but he also had a deep love for the community and a true commitment to making the mission a priority in all areas of school operations.

Therefore, effective immediately, Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila and Superintendent Dr. Kemmery Hill announce the appointment of Mr. Mike D. Gabriel as President of Holy Family High School.

As we previously shared, Mr. Gabriel brings a wealth of experience and a profound dedication to Holy Family and its students. He is not only an alumnus of the school but has also served as Assistant Principal for the past eight years, Dean of Students, Director of Curriculum and Staff Development, and Head Football Coach. He is known and loved by the Holy Family community, which will serve him well in his new role.

“We are thrilled to be able to find someone who fits this role so perfectly, not through our nationwide search, but someone from within our own Catholic schools and Holy Family community,” said Superintendent Dr. Kemmery Hill. “Mike and the entire Gabriel family have very deep roots in this community, and their passion for Holy Family High School is unparalleled. We know Mike will propel Holy Family forward, further the mission, and build on the school’s successes for decades to come.”

“I am humbled that Archbishop Aquila and the Office of Catholic Schools have faith in me and my leadership team, and I am honored to serve this community. As I move forward in my new role, I hope to grow this community in faith, connect the past to the present, and set Holy Family up for a long and bright future,” Gabriel said in response to the news. “I am thankful for my amazing team and the work they do every day at Holy Family High School to make it such a special and amazing place to work. This community has blessed and supported my family in so many ways over the years.”

In addition, with Mr. Gabriel’s appointment as the school’s new President, Archbishop Aquila and Superintendent Hill have appointed Mary Vulcani as Principal, effective immediately. Ms. Vulcani has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment in her ten-year tenure at Holy Family, where she has excelled in various roles, including Dean of Students and Director of Campus Ministry. We couldn’t be more pleased to have her in this role moving forward.
