Twenty-five men were installed in the ministries of acolyte or lector at a ceremony presided over by Archbishop Samuel Aquila Sept. 27 at Christ the King Chapel at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary. In the ministry of lector, the seminarians may proclaim the Scripture at Mass and celebrations of the sacraments, train other readers and prepare people to receive the sacraments. An acolyte is charged with assisting at the celebration of the Eucharist, purifying sacred vessels, and assisting with distribution of Communion. They received the ministries in anticipation of their future diaconal, and ultimately priestly, ordinations.
