Since opening its doors in 2022, the Every Child Pediatrics clinic at Samaritan House, Catholic Charities’ shelter in Denver, has been a vital healthcare resource for children experiencing homelessness and financial insecurity. The clinic provides comprehensive pediatric care for young patients and their families, ensuring they have access to essential medical services.
“We see kiddos who are living here at Samaritan House, as well as those in the community facing financial hardship,” said Sarah Schaller, clinic coordinator at the Every Child Pediatrics clinic at Samaritan House. “We do everything here from well-child checks to autism, ADHD and asthma. If a child has a cough, a fever or anything like that, we are where they can come to.”
The clinic serves children and young adults from birth through age 22 and is staffed by physician assistants, doctors and nurse practitioners. Services include routine check-ups, vaccinations and acute care. Children also receive necessary immunizations through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) state program.
The clinic offers specialty support in addition to primary medical care. A dentist from Deserving Dental visits Samaritan House monthly to provide cleanings, and children needing further dental care receive referrals. A dietitian is also available, offering virtual consultations to support children’s nutritional health.
The impact of Every Child Pediatrics at Samaritan House is evident, especially in the numbers. Between March 2023 and July 2024, the clinic completed 220 well-child checks and administered more than 350 vaccines. They also provided care for nearly 300 sick visits and follow-ups, referring 240 children to partnering specialists, therapists and social caseworkers.
Beyond the walls of Samaritan House, the clinic helps families transition to long-term healthcare solutions.
“Once they move into their own homes, they can continue care at one of our other Every Child Pediatrics locations,” Schaller explained.
Every Child Pediatrics at Samaritan House is funded by Colorado Access and generous donor contributions, ensuring that families in need receive high-quality, compassionate care. By addressing both immediate and long-term health needs, the clinic is making a lasting difference in the lives of Denver’s most vulnerable children.
