Deacon Jim Golhofer passed away on December 5, 2017 at the age of 72. Deacon Jim ministered to the faithful in at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Northglenn and Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Broomfield before leaving to California.
Born James Dale Golhofer in Kingsley, Iowa, to Frank and Blanche, he came into the world on November 2, 1945 and was baptized at St. Michael parish two weeks later. Jim grew up on a farm in Iowa with a devout and loving family. After and active high school involving sports and social clubs, he went off to the University of South Dakota where he started a career in banking. Then in 1964, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he spent time in Vietnam. Returning from Vietnam, he went back to working at a bank. In 1973, Jim relocated to Colorado and was a Department Manager for the Northglenn location. He eventually became a Senior Vice President for a Southeast Denver Bank.
On July 25, 1992, he married Sherryl Lynn in a ceremony at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Northglenn. They have three children; Jason, Brittney and Erin with 11 grandchildren;
On June 12, 1999, he was ordained a Deacon in the Archdiocese of Denver by Archbishop Charles Chaput and was immediately assigned to Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish where he was also the parish Business Administrator. Then, in 2007, Deacon Jim was asked by Archbishop Chaput to relocate to Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Broomfield.
Shortly after his ordination, the doctor’s discovered that Deacon Jim had neuropathy and he would need assistance getting around. As the disease progressed, Deacon Jim decided to move closer to his children in California and requested to be relocated to Oceanside.
“Deacon Jim modeled Jesus Christ, the suffering servant.” said Deacon Joseph Donohoe, Director of Deacon Personnel, “His suffering and his joy reflected a tremendous confidence in his Savior, Jesus Christ.”
A Vigil for Deacon Jim was held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Northglenn on the 14th of December 2017 at 7:00 pm. The principal celebrant for the Funeral Mass was Auxiliary Bishop Jorge Rodriquez. The Mass was also at Immaculate Heart of Mary at 10:00 am on the 2nd of July 2016. He was laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Golden, CO.
